Do you prefer shopping online or in stores? Personally, I find making purchases over the web easier to save money and more convenient. As someone who is frequently buying products over the internet, I thought I would show you some tips on how you could save money while shopping online!
1. Search for Promotional Codes
This method is easier than the old-fashioned way of clipping coupons from catalogs. Before you confirm the payment on your purchase, type in “the site you’re shopping at” with the term “promo code” into Google’s search engine and you will see different options show up. Choose the codes with the best deals to add to your shopping cart and watch the total price go down. The most reliable websites I use are retailmenot.com and groupon.com.
2. Sign up for E-mail Updates
Many sites send you a promotional code when you sign up for their e-mail subscription to use on your first purchase. If you don’t want your inbox flooded with spam then create another e-mail address to use for these subscriptions. People that are on a company’s e-mail list get access to special promotions.
3. Compare Prices with Browser Add-Ons
I suggest downloading a browser extension. My favorite is PriceBlink because this add-on automatically finds lower prices across the web and coupons while I am shopping. Another extension that is similar to PriceBlink is Wikibuy. These add-ons make my shopping experience faster by not having to manually search the web for lower prices.
4. Track Prices
Add items to your wish list or shopping cart then leave them there for a few days. Check back every so often and you might notice the items go down in price. I know through Amazon that many sellers lower their prices to remain on top of the buying list, which is why you might find that items are cheaper on Amazon after a couple of days.
5. Get Cash Back
Through E-bates, you can automatically earn a percentage of cash back by shopping. Download the browser extension as a reminder to use it whenever you are making a purchase. There’s no catch to it, just shop through the participating stores and earn money. You can choose to receive your payment in the form of a check or to your bank account. If you’re not on E-bates yet, then here’s my referral link you can use to sign up and earn $10:
6. Use Social Media
Follow brands that you are interested in on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to get updates on the latest promotions. Look up certain hashtags on Twitter and Instagram such as #coupon, #promo, and #giveaway to find deals that might interest you.
7. Buy Gift Cards at a Discount
You can buy gift cards that are cheaper than the value of the card. If you’re not planning to buy something right away, then it is a good idea to buy a discounted gift card to save a few bucks. A site that I use is giftcardgranny.com.
Bonus for Those of You with a Valid Student E-Mail Address
Use your student e-mail address to your advantage! Many companies offer special promotions for students, so make sure to check if there are any student deals before making a purchase. Sign up with UNiDAYS to score discounts on major brands and don’t forget to take advantage of Amazon Prime.
