Mixing High and Low Fashion to Achieve a Luxury Winter Look

Hello, my Fashionistas!

Whenever I travel anywhere cold, I try to keep my attire as warm as possible while remaining stylish. As I was getting ready for this trip, I dreaded flying to Massachusetts and experiencing the cold weather. Luckily, I was prepared so it wasn’t so bad.

I generally try to achieve the luxurious look and what I’ve learned is that you don’t always have to purchase expensive designer clothing to appear fashionable. It’s all about mastering the art of mixing high and low fashion. I’ll let you in on a secret — I invest real money in classic pieces that I will continually wear and spend less on trendy items.

To put together this outfit, I chose to wear a black wool coat from Zara and built the rest of my look around it. What I love about this item is the fur collar, which adds a touch of glamor. Everyone should own a peacoat in his or her closet. In fact, it is an item you should splurge your money on. A timeless piece that can elevate any look. Black is my go-to color for any occasion, it’s simple and chic.

Under my coat, I wore a white turtleneck sweater from Abercrombie and Fitch paired with blue jeans from American Eagle. Nothing fancy but the combination matched nicely. It was the perfect outfit to transition from casual to sophisticated. I intentionally bought the top because there was a good deal at the store. Why spend tons of money on something that is going to be hidden under my coat? Although I probably would have spent more money on a pair of jeans if other brands had my size (00/23) but let’s be honest, nobody pays attention to where your jeans came from. My struggle is that I am very petite so it is difficult to shop, but I try my best to work with whatever I can. In the end, it saves me from spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of jeans.

The pointed-toe booties from Ann Taylor are my favorite. Trust me, they are more comfortable than they look after breaking them in. I can easily pair these shoes with any outfit and the fringes add a unique element. The addition of gold zippers and nude bottoms make the booties seem pricier than they are. I always get compliments on them!

To complete the outfit, I accessorized with a wine-colored bag from Kate Spade to add a pop of color. It’s the ideal bag to fit all my essentials. As long as your intention of purchasing a purse is to use it more than once then it is okay to spend a little extra money on an item that is versatile.

Overall, I did not dress from head to toe in high-end brands but still managed to pull off a look that is polished and elegant.

How do you achieve a luxury look?

XOXO

High and low is my staple. I tend to spend my money on a good blazer a good handbag and great shoes. The Rey is up for debate.
